Problem Solving

Problem solving:

Problem 1:

My first problem was that we didn't have access to the studio next Tuesday and Wednesday because Ofsted would be visiting and inspecting the college.

Solution:

To solve this problem, I concentrated on completing my research such as deciding on the name of my magazine and conducting audience research and etc. It was helpful for me to finish my research at this time so that I could begin planning and producing my work. I also completed my weekly reflections, in which I described the work I had completed that week. Even though I didn't have access to the studio did other work that didn't require the studio making it quicker for to start my practical skills and my planning and production

Problem 2:

I couldn't find a name that would fit my magazine the best.

Solution:

To solve this problem I created a Google Form survey with different Japanese names that my audience could pick from. I thought creating a survey would be helpful for me to see what audience choices were to see if they chose the same name as me or a different name, I also asked them to give me their explanation on why they liked that specific name so if I didn't like the name that they chose the reasoning on why they chose that name could change my mind. Now I have a final name for my Japanese fashion magazine that both me and my audience like.

Problem 3:

My models had some difficulty doing the positions I had chosen for the photo shoot which was my first issue. For instance, one of my models struggled to maintain their balance during one posture because it called for one foot to be raised. This was my fault because even though I had already sketched out my plans and believed that my models would have no trouble executing them it turned out that they found it challenging to maintain their balance for a certain amount of time.

Solution:

To solve this problem, I searched up on Pinterest alternative poses for my models to do. I made sure to ask my models if they could perform that particular pose to ensure that I'm choosing a pose that is comfortable for them as I don't want to chose a pose they aren't comfortable with doing or can't do. I think I did a great job solving this problem I made sure to find a solution as soon as possible because I didn't want to waste time as I didn't have much time in the studio,  which was also why I needed to act fast I didn't want my model photo's to look rushed so in this solution I was very calm and collective at the end my models and I were pleased with the postures we decided on.

Problem 4:

The iso was set way too high and the camera wasn't working.  The first issue I ran into was with the camera's setup; even though I had the focus set, whenever I tried to take shots of my model the flash would go off or the picture would be out of focus. For example my model Fizza's style was streetwear, so I wanted her picture to be quite dark because it fits the streetwear vibe. However, when I was taking the pictures, they would turn out way too bright making it difficult to see her outfit or her face which was very frustrating. the iso setting problem was my main issue as my result of my image was not what I wanted, it also wasted quite a bit of time which meant I had to manage my time according.

Solution:

In order to resolve this issue, I asked TJ for help with the ISO setting. He showed me how to do so and showed me where to find it on the camera in case  I ever needed to adjust the ISO setting again. My classmate Muqs also assisted me in adjusting the camera's settings so that my image in focus and not blurry, I asked her to stand in front of the camera so I could focus it the camera focus and I won't have any problems with the camera being out of focus. Although I had some difficulty with the camera and the iso setting it taught me to be patient with the camera because sometimes I act a little to fast without making sure everything is in focus and that my settings are set on how I want them Tj's and Muqs's help was very helpful to me as they both helped me with my camera difficulty.

Problem 5:

I couldn't decide what shades of lighting I wanted to have. I didn't know what colour film I wanted to use for my colour lighting I was very indecisive I struggled to make a decision since I thought any shade would work for the lighting in my magazine.

Solution:

To solve this problem, I decided to experiment with a few of the colour film's shades for my lighting. Since I didn't want to use just one colour, I mixed multiple colours to create a contrast or an ombre of two colours. I also asked classmates which colour of film they thought would look best with my lighting because I wanted to know what colours they had in mind for me to use for my lighting.Due to the fact that my two models' aesthetics are so different from one another, I wanted to match the lighting to their style vibe. Since my model Esi had a cute fashion style, I chose to combine purple and pink coloured film for my lighting. both colours are light shades and give off that cute vibe which I thought would go very well with Esi's style that I chose for her the lighting turned out great my classmates also agreed that I should wear those two shades as they also thought it matches Esi cute fashion style. The same goes for my model Fizza I chose darker colours for the lighting because her style is streetwear. I mixed blue and red which created an amazing ombre effect and I felt it went really well with her look as the lighting gives off that grunge look. I'm glad I combined the colour films since I was able to see which colour contrast or ombre I preferred by mixing different shades together. I'm pleased I used more than one colour because my lighting didn't look solid and boring by using more than one coloured I created an ombre lighting effect which made my photo look way more cooler and more professional.

Problem 6:

I had a couple of missing items that my model's couldn't bring. one of my model couldn't bring her boots, beanie for her streetwear outfits and my other model couldn't bring her heels for one of her outfits.

Solution:

To solve this problem, I took the clothing that my models brought and mixed and matched it to make different outfits. I improvised since I could understand why they couldn't bring those products because they couldn't find them or they were too heavy to carry. This gave me confidence that I am a quick thinker and can always find a solution if there is a problem. I'm glad that I was able to make all the outfits look as different to one other by adding accessories that I brought in just in case this situation would happen which it did I was very prepared. I created 3 outfits for me to work with for my photoshoot.

Problem 7:

I couldn't find the text that was used in the Youtube tutorial that I was using to create my glass text effect, they didn't provide a link for where they found the font and didn't say what font they were using which was a bit frustrating for me.

Solution

To solve this issue, I decided to use my own font for the glass effect for my title. This was an easy problem to solve because it allowed me to see what other fonts would look good for my magazine, and also what fonts would work well with the glass effect and what fonts would not work well with the glass effect it was a bit frustrating at first as I was scared to use other font other then the Youtube tutorial one, because I didn't think the glass effect would work well if I chose other font  but their was no problem with the font I chose which I was glad about I'm very pleased with the font I chose in the end and it looked very good with the glass effect it's very eye-catching and bold which was the aim I was going for.

Problem 8:

My type was too large for my heart bubble sketch I couldn't fit my paragraph inside because my paragraph would go outside of the heart bubble when I used Photoshop and my text was too small.

Solution:

To solve this problem I used Indesign instead of Photoshop. Indesign was better for me because I could adjust my paragraph to fit my heart bubble  and I could adjust the text size to how I wanted it to look, on Photoshop I could only make my text box big or small and I couldn't adjust the edges, which was inconvenient for me because I needed to fix the edges for my paragraph to fit the bubble. Indesign definitely helped me a lot because it was more free and better for text adjustments. Also the small text was unreadable and not very clear but when I did my text on Indesign it was way clearer and more visible

Problem 9:

I didn't have time to take any pictures for my back cover page because I didn't have much time in the studio left,  because I booked it 3:15 to 4:15 I needed a little more time to take my back cover image.

Solution:

To solve this problem, I decided to use an image from my duo page because I had a lot of photos of them in various of poses. I'm glad I had those images or else I wouldn't have any images for my back cover page if I didn't. I should've booked the studio earlier because it would have given me more time to take my images, which is something I will definitely do in the future. Because I didn't have enough time I didn't get it to take the images I wanted showing that my time management skills were not the best in this part of my photoshoot but however I'm glad I have an image that I can use for my back cover which is a plus.
