Planning and Production

My Mind Map:

This mind map I created for my unit 12. These are some ideas I had for my FMP all my ideas were good but I finally decided to make a Japanese magazines for my FMP. This idea stood out to me the most because it was the most intriguing of the bunch, and I already had plans for what I wanted to research and how I wanted my magazines to look. In addition, I am a huge fan of Japanese fashion so I wanted my FMP to be something I am interested about as this is my own project as a result this was my final decision and I am very pleased with it. The Anime documentary, Social issue Documentary and the Vogue magazine idea were good ideas but I have created them in the past and I didn't want to do something I've already done.

Sketching my designs:

I made a Pinterest board listing all the possible model poses I could use for my Japanese fashion magazine. I found a lot of ideas on Pinterest for poses I could use as well as for poses used in Japanese fashion magazines. I looked at both cute poses and streetwear poses since they are my two styles I am focusing on. They are both quite popular among the fashion community as a lot of magazines either go for the grunge look or the cute look for their poses. I plan to do a front case pose, an information cover pose, a content page pose, two individual poses, a bunch of other poses for my clothing item page of each of my individual styles, a duo pose, a number of duo poses for my clothing item page lastly a back cover pose. I was able to find all the poses that I needed for my magazine it was quite a hard decision for me to make because all the poses were very suitable for my magazine, I also asked my classmates to see which poses they liked best and would fit best with my two styles because I was struggling because I liked all of my inspiration pictures I wanted to get their opinion I see what they think, we all had the same kind of idea and at the end I was able to chose my final poses for my Japanese fashion magazine Pinterest was a huge help to me and served as my main source of inspiration for all my poses.

My Sketches:

These are all the sketches I've created I drew all my magazine designs using the app Sketchbook. I traced over all the images Sketchbook was really easy to use because I could lower the opacity of the actual image and create a new layer this was very helpful as the image was easier to trace, I could also size my images to how I wanted I could move things to specific places and ect I wanted to to create a visual pages  of how I want my magazine to look like when I create it, Sketchbook was a very smooth and easy software and I would definitely use it again. Also I feel like sketching my designs out will be helpful when I am doing my production work because I already placed where I want things and what I want to add so when I am editing my magazine, I can look at my sketch and see how my layout looks and go off my sketch. The process of sketching my magazine was time consuming but worth it because I know have a rough representation of how my magazine will look when it's officially done. Although I've sketched out my magazine layout I can always change things for instance, if I decide to use a different pose than the one in my sketch because I think it will look better I can do that it's very helpful for me to plan the layout of my magazine in advance so that when I actually begin creating the magazine there won't be
any problems and my production will go smoothly.

After I sketched all my designs out I decided to annotate my sketches I used Powerpoint for this because it's a simple software for me to use. I noted what colours I want certain things to be and what text I wanted to add to each page and what the different pages are, this is helpful for me as when I'm doing my production work I know where to add my text and what colours I will be using for each page. I feel like annotating each page shows that I am prepared for my production work and I am planning according and efficiently.

Client contact:

This was my client contact with both models. I decided that it would be best to ask my models what clothes they are bringing because I didn't want them to bring anything that didn't fit my two fashion aesthetics which are cute and streetwear. I asked them to show me what clothes they had that would go well with these two styles. I used Instagram to get in touch with them because we follow one another and it seemed like the best platform for me and models to communicate. Communication was important to me because I didn't want to run into any issues with clothing items missing for my photoshoot or my models not knowing what to bring for my photo shoot because that would be a major issue for me as they aren't aware and that would waste my photoshoot time. I asked each of my models to show me the clothing items they will be bringing that matched the descriptions I had given them. This helped me and them because we were both on the same page and knew what we needed to bring to the photo shoot and what I wanted them to bring. I knew that communicating with them would help me visualise my photoshoot as I can see what clothing items to put together to create different outfits, I also gave them suggestions on what they should and shouldn't bring, the pictures that my models sent me of their clothing pieces and accessories was helpful for me to see what I could work with and in case they didn't have a certain item I could bring it.I also made a group chat with both me and my models in it in which I gave them a checklist of how many outfits each of them should bring, as well as what I will bring to the photoshoot just so they are aware of what I'm bringing and also if they forgot how many outfits they should bring because that would be a problem communication between me and models went smoothly and we were prepared for the photoshoot and ready to take some pictures in these outfits.

Front cover photos:

The final photo I picked for my front cover:

I chose this image because it was the clearest to me and I loved how it turned it. My models were perfectly positioned and the red and pink ombre lighting showed up the best in this picture.  In most of my other pictures, the ombre didn't really show up because the white lighting overpowered it also most of my pictures were either close up or my positioning was incorrect. This picture, in my opinion would look really good as my front cover it's also the clearest among the rest as I noticed so of my picture specific parts aren't in focus,  it also has a lot of space for me to add my stickers and text. I also asked my classmates which picture they liked best, and they all agreed including me that this picture would be a perfect front cover picture it looked very professional. I'm glad I took a lot of pictures because I had a variety of pictures to chose from and also I don't have to retake any pictures so this wouldn't limit my production time as I was prepared and I had back up photos to chose from in case one photo didn't work out.

Info page photos:

The final photo I chose for my info page:

This is the image I chose for my info page because my model looks very expressive and it was the clearest of all my other photos I took. I like how my model is positioned, as well as how she is pointing with an expressive face implying that the text I will add is interesting. The photos above were mostly too close up and most of them had my model covering her mouth with her hand, which didn't show her expression very well. The photo I chose clearly shows her expression because her hand isn't covering her mouth. I feel like I can do a lot with the final photo I chose because my plan was to add heart speech bubbles so that my model could point at them with her expressive face so this photo appeared to be the best for me to do that. Also, while some of the photos were out of focus my final photo was the clearest among all of my photos which is another reason to why I chose this photo. I also asked my classmates which picture they liked best and everyone agreed including me that this was the best info cover picture, because it is the most expressive and in focus photo that I took. I'm glad I took a lot of pictures because I have a variety of photos to choose from and I don't have to retake any pictures so this won't limit my production time as I was prepared and I had back up photos to chose from in case one photo didn't work out.

Content page photos:

The final photo I chose for my content page:

This is the photo I chose for my final image because my model was properly positioned and it looked the most like my sketch and my inspired photo that I used for my model. The photos above my model's hand are too far away from the camera, and she is positioned too far away from the camera which wasn't ideal for my content page because I wanted to use a close-up image. They are also somewhat blurry and not very clear I think the photo I chose was the clearest of all of them which is another reason to why I chose this photo, I also asked my classmates which picture they liked best and everyone agreed including me that this was the best info cover picture, because it looked the most like my sketch. My final photo in which I chose my model had the correct position I wanted her to be in  because it was a close-up shot and her hand were exactly to where I wanted it to be. I'm glad I took more than one photo because I had a variety of photos to choose from, I didn't have as much time to take as many photos as I did for my other pages, but I'm glad I got more than one photo so that I don't have to retake any pictures and I can chose from the photos I took. This won't limit my production time because I was prepared and had back up photos to choose from if one photo didn't work out.

Streetwear page photos (Fizza):

Streetwear fashion photos:

Final photos I picked for my Streetwear fashion page:

These are the images I chose for my Streetwear page. I chose a front cover image as well as other images for my information page. I chose these images because my model was properly positioned and they were well taken. Also I chose the last image as my front cover because the other photos were a little too far away, so I thought this was a good front cover image because it's closer than the other images and I liked how serious my model looked in this photo because it fit her streetwear vibe. In addition, some of my images were slightly blurry and unclear. I believe the photo I chose for my front cover was the clearest of all of them which is why I chose it. I also chose two additional images for my information page because I wanted to include images of my models on my information page because I wanted a lot of visual images. I liked the image of her sitting down because you can see her shoes clearly and it's different from my other images because she's not standing up which shows that I used a variety of poses and not just images of my model standing up. The other image shows her wearing headphones, this image appealed to me as well because I can use it as a close-up for my information page and I liked the pose my model was doing.  I also asked my classmates which picture they liked best and everyone agreed including me, that these photos were the best for my front cover page and information page because they were in focus and looked like professional model shots you'd see in popular fashion magazines.

I'm glad I took more than one photo because I now have a variety of photos to choose from and I don't have to retake any photos so this won't cut into my production time and I don't have to waste my time taking photos this shows I am  prepared also it's a pro because I have backup photos to choose from if one photo doesn't work out for my pages. I also wanted to take a lot of photos of my streetwear page because that is one of my styles and I didn't want to have my models retake any of these photos because they were important images that I needed for my production so I made sure I took a lot of images of my model.

Kawaii Fashion page photos (Esi):

The final photos I picked for my kawaii fashion page:

These are the images I chose for my Kawaii fashion page I chose a front cover image as well as other images for my information page. I chose these images because my model was properly positioned and they were well taken, also I chose the middle image for my front cover because the other photos were either too far away or too close up so I thought the image I chose was a good front cover image because it was the perfect camera shot I wanted because it wasn't too far or too close also I liked my model's expressiveness because she's smiling and doing the peace sign which I thought fit the cute (kawaii) look.
Also, some of my images were slightly blurry and unclear so I didn't want to use a blurry image for my front cover I think the photo I chose for my front cover was the clearest of all of them which is why I chose it. I also chose two additional images for my information page because I wanted to include images of my models because I think it makes the magazine more appealing because people prefer to look at images rather than text. I also liked the close-up image of my model doing the heart pose because it can be used as a close-up image for my information page and the pose fits my kawaii style because it's a cute pose. I also chose the image of my model standing up with one of her legs up because it's a popular pose in other fashion magazines and it shows off her shoes; it's a professional fashion pose. I also asked my classmates which picture they preferred and everyone agreed including myself , that these photos were the best for my front cover page and information page because they were in focus and looked like professional model shots from popular fashion magazines.

I'm glad I took more than one photo because now I have a variety of photos to choose from and I won't have to retake any photos, so this won't cut into my production time and I won't have to waste my time taking photos which shows I'm prepared. It's also a pro because I have backup photos to choose from if one photo doesn't work out for my pages, I also wanted to take a lot of photos of my kawaii fashion page because that is one of my styles, and I didn't want to have any of these photos retaken because they were important images that I needed for my production, so I made sure I took a lot of images of my model.

Duo pictures (Streetwear and Kawaii):

Final pictures I chose for my duo page:

These are the images I chose for my duo page that shows both of my styles Kawaii and Streetwear I chose a front cover image as well as other images for my information page. I chose these images because my model was properly positioned and they were well taken, also I chose the image above  my front cover because the other photos my models looked kind of stiff while's they were posing and they weren't positioned how I wanted them to be.I thought the image I chose was a good front cover image because it was a perfect camera shot and I liked how expressive my model was because they looked very professional. I also didn't want to use a blurry image for my front cover because some of my images were slightly blurry and unclear, the photo I chose for my front cover was the clearest of them all which is why I chose it. I also chose three additional images for my information page because I wanted to include images of my models because I think it makes the magazine more appealing to reader because people prefer images rather than text. I chose the first photo for my kawaii style model because I think the pose suits her style and the other photos I took of her were too blurry.  I chose the middle image of my streetwear model because the pose she's doing fits her streetwear style because she's serious and you can really tell how opposite my two styles are by the two poses which I liked. I chose the last image as my close-up image for my information page, you can also see that they are polar opposites because my kawaii style model is doing a cute pose and smiling while my streetwear model is more serious and has her hands in her pocket. I also asked my classmates which picture they preferred and everyone including myself agreed that these photos were the best for my front cover and information page, because they were in focus and looked like professional model shots from popular fashion magazines.

I'm glad I took more than one photo because now I have a variety of photos to choose from and I won't have to retake any photos, so this won't cut into my production time and I won't have to waste my time taking photos which shows I'm prepared. It's also a pro because I have backup photos to choose from if one photo doesn't work out for my pages, I also wanted to take a lot of photos of my two models from my duo page because they are both my styles that I am focusing on in my magazine, and I didn't want to have any of these photos retaken because they were important images that I needed for my production so I made sure I took a lot of images of my models.

Final back cover image:

I didn't take any back cover images because I was running out of studio time for my photoshoot so I decided to use an image that I took for my duo page because I took a lot of images of them doing different poses. I thought I could use one image that I didn't use for my duo page for my back cover, I chose this image because my models look expressive and I liked how my models were positioned, I feel like this image would really suit my back cover image. I'm glad that I had my duo images because if I didn't I wouldn't have any images for my back cover page. However I should've booked the studio earlier as it would give me enough time to take my back cover images, It wasn't the pose I wanted my models to do but I had to improvise which shows that I can solve my problems. This is why I thought taking a lot of images is important because in this situation I used a back up image which saved me from doing my photoshoot again, which shows that taking various poses of your models can help you when problems like this occur.
